Teflon® Gaskets

Believe it or not, Teflon® is not a finished product. It's really more of a recipe. The recipe can be used to make several compounds with different properties. If a manufacturer doesn't follow that recipe exactly, they can't market their product as Teflon. It's like having to buy your flour, sugar and chocolate chips from the same place for every batch of cookies. It doesn't matter if one of those ingredients is out of stock, you can't substitute an equivalent product.

DuPont™ is rightly concerned about its trademarked name. At M&P Sealing, we respect the rights of all trademark owners. We also understand that some of our clients are going to ask about Teflon sheets, gaskets and other Teflon products. What we provide for these customers are products made from high quality Polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE), Perfluoroalkoxy (PFA) or Fluorinated Ethylene Propylene (FEP) as dictated by the customer's needs. Some raw material may bear the Teflon name, but often it will not.

PTFE was accidentally invented by DuPont in 1938. It is a high-molecular-weight compound of carbon and fluorine. It is resistant to most liquids, has extremely low friction and has excellent dielectric properties. In sealing applications, the material creeps a small amount to conform to the mating surface. Different fillers are used to control the amount of creep. Contact the Sealing Solution Pros at M&P to determine which compound will best meet your needs.
